What Are Lip Fillers?
Lip filler application is the injection of dermal fillers to the inner part of the lips or around them to define the lips and make them fuller. Although there are various fillers used in lip augmentation, such as permanent/semi-synthetic or animal-derived fillers, the most reliable and widely used fillers are hyaluronic acid-based fillers.
Hyaluronic acid is a fundamental component of the connective tissue, enabling skin cells to retain water and giving the skin its volume. Unlike other fillers, the most important feature of hyaluronic acid fillers is that the risk of allergic reaction or rejection by the body is very low. In this way, a more natural lip appearance is achieved.
The most important determinant in successful lip augmentation is the quality of the filler used. The application should be carried out in a way that preserves the naturality of the face, taking into account the person’s facial structure. It is not a one-size-fits-all procedure that is performed the same way for every person.
What Is It Used For?
- Correction of asymmetry in the lips,
- Defining the lip lines,
- Augmenting the lips and making them fit aesthetic proportions,
- Correction of changes that occur with age, such as loss of volume, wrinkles and sagging on the lips.
How Is the Procedure Carried Out?
Anesthetic cream is applied 30 to 45 minutes before starting the application. The filler material is injected using a fine needle at the points predetermined by the doctor.
How Long Do the Effects Last?
The effects of lip filler injections performed using hyaluronic acid-based filling materials last between 8 to 12 months. During the follow up appointment performed approximately 1 to 2 weeks after the application, small touch-ups can be made in accordance with the patient’s wishes or if the physician deems it necessary.
Although the effects occur immediately, in people with very thin lips it may be a problem to augment the lips rapidly. In these cases, the process can be divided into 2 to 3 sessions, and the lips can be gradually augmented over a span of 6 to 8 months.
