What is Fractional Laser?

It is a treatment method applied to provide an anti-aging effect, reduce acne scars, tighten soft tissue, renew the skin, correct periorbital (eye corner and eyelids) wrinkles, and remove spots (aging spots, melasma, sun spots, skin color changes).

As Fractional Laser creates deliberate and controlled damage only to the part of the skin it is applied to, the rest of the skin surface is left in a healthy state. Thus, the recovery period is shortened and social life is not affected after the treatment.

Fractional Laser is a laser peeling method that can be safely applied to the darker skin tones as well as light. Fractional Laser, which is one of the most effective solutions used in the treatment of scars from acne, wounds, burns or cuts in the recent years, offers effective solutions for almost all skin problems.

How Is the Procedure Carried Out?

Firstly, your skin will be examined by your dermatologist during the consultation and it will be assessed whether it is suitable for Fractional Laser application. Then the treatment area is cleaned. It is important that the skin has not undergone treatments of any kind before Fractional Laser to prevent irritation.

Fractional Laser is a type of laser that can reach deeper layers due to its technical features that can create positive effects on the skin. It creates controlled heat damage to the skin by sending laser light in small diameter beams to the skin. The skin around the heat-damaged areas remain intact. The heat damaged area is quickly repaired by cells from the surrounding healthy skin. Thus, the healing process is rapid and the results are more permanent.

Frequently Asked Questions

The procedure is completed within 20 to 60 minutes. However, the skin needs to be soothed for about an hour after the treatment. Therefore, the patient should allow roughly two hours for the fractional laser procedure.

A topical anesthetic cream is applied to the treatment area before the fractional laser procedure. Ice is used during and after the procedure. This reduces pain and makes the treatment more comfortable for the patient.

The procedure may cause redness and scabbing for 5 to 10 days. However, this is usually not very noticeable. Using concealer makes it easy to return to work and social activities.

After the treatment, the skin may show mild redness and swelling. Swelling subsides within 24 to 48 hours. Redness fades on a similar schedule. About 3 to 6 days after the redness, the skin peels. The first visible effect is softer, smoother skin. However, the full result becomes apparent within 4 to 6 months after repeated sessions. The skin needs time to produce collagen.
